ABOUT SUN VALLEY ICE THEATER
Based in Sun Valley, Idaho, Sun Valley Ice Theater brings stories to life through skating, music, movement, and costume.
Founded and directed by professional figure skater, coach, and choreographer Darlin Baker, the company brings skaters of all ages and abilities together to explore their creativity and share the joy of performing as an ensemble.
Each production celebrates imagination, individuality, and teamwork, with every skater helping tell the story.

For Darlin Baker, the ice has always been a place where discipline meets imagination—and movement becomes a story.
A professional figure skater, coach, choreographer, artist, and designer based in Sun Valley, Idaho, Darlin first stepped onto the ice at just 18 months old and turned professional at 15. Skating became a lifelong creative language, connecting her work as an athlete and performer with her passion for helping others discover their own expression.
Her professional career has taken her to audiences around the world. Her performance credits include Champions on Ice with Scott Hamilton, Nancy Kerrigan’s Halloween on Ice, and Philippe Candeloro’s Winter Tour. In Sun Valley, she performed as a principal soloist in the ice shows for 25 years and choreographed the children’s ensemble for a decade—bringing both the performer’s perspective and the choreographer’s eye to the ice.
Across 30 years of coaching, Darlin has worked with thousands of skaters of all ages and abilities. Her teaching spans freestyle, ice dance, skating skills, choreography, style, and group instruction. Her students’ journeys have included first steps in Learn to Skate, U.S. Figure Skating gold medals, and professional performance opportunities with Disney on Ice. Among the skaters Darlin has coached is Autumn Coulthard, who went on to represent Team USA with the Haydenettes and earn World Synchronized Skating Championships silver medals in 2024 and 2026 and bronze in 2025.
As Founder and Artistic Director of Sun Valley Ice Theater, Darlin brings these experiences into a company built around storytelling, individuality, and ensemble performance. She shapes productions through music, movement, character, costumes, and theatrical design, giving each skater a part in a shared creative world. For Awakening, she created, choreographed, and directed the production and designed its costumes and sets.
Sun Valley Ice Theater is the realization of a long-held dream: a place where skaters can grow technically, artistically, and emotionally while sharing the joy of performance. Darlin’s vision embraces artistry across ages and abilities, celebrates the imagination each performer brings, and invites audiences to experience the connection and wonder that live skating can create.
